A Father’s Sound

I miss those words so clearly spoke
When you had all the time to say them
How for granted one then took
Never thinking they would be taken
I miss the stories that you told
When you never had to say them twice
For then that time would just pass by
And journeys turned pages of mine

How ungrateful can one be
With a selfish thought in mind
That even though something was taken
Still something so precious was left behind
How wrong was it to long to hear
The sounds that you once spoke
For now when things seemed so unclear
Readily I’d take the step you took

I miss that voice your voice it was
One day I still wish for it back
But till that time comes round again
I’ll learn to love that which is here that we have
So short is time that we long for
So eager I wish to spend it
For when the time comes for another loss
I’ll know we did everything to defend it
