She is walking along a path of hopes and dreams
People passing unknown to what it all really means
Christmas spirit everyone laughing with cheer
In her heart she holds a Christmas wish so dear

This is for you that you live to see all life gives
Wrapped up in blessings more than all you will ever need
Tied in a bow that protects your heart from ever getting broken
Happiness glittered all over bringing laughter to your days

There is no gift so precious as the gift of real true love
It’s easy to forget when life beats on all the years
What will you give to someone who has everything yet none
A piece of her she will give and the memory may be enough

To create that fire
To keep your hope
Burning for
Another day to come

They gave us promises
Of uncertain hypocrisies
To nurture the ignorant
Into their reality
It’s no longer just
Having eyes open indefinitely
If the mind doesn’t piece
The puzzle of falsity

Who are the patriots
We thought we once knew
Now they stay hidden
Blamed for surfacing truth
Their hearts so broken
Yearning for their voices heard
But only given opportunities
Of vague expressive words

They once told us a different story
One that helped us go to sleep
But now they’re gone no where among us
The trees surrounding rustled nightmares into our dreams
Eager to know how the chapter unfolded
But the branches intertwined to cover and hide
Daylight started to get much darker
It was not yet even reaching the night

Spores dispersed seeds planted in places the wind blew
Rain under covered branches the planted grew only a few
Hunger for more the branches would part
Sunlight seeped just enough for a meagre feed
No one thought different of this forest amongst us
The leaves all rustled to the same rhythm and beat
Nothing stopping the branches growing
Not even a threat to engulf it in flames

There she walked
Quietly into the forest
An iris she sought
To find

Curiosity to test how humanity would react
Obvious is not but the bread crumb trails lead to lots
Void to fill they’d capture that turning it into what’s real
Identities change no one you can trust the same
Danger that lurks now seeps deeper behind closed doors

Is it a question even worth asking
Sinners win battles and the good ain’t lasting

Alas we see all that remains is death

Lingering memories of a time once before
Inexistent to those blinded by all the flaws
Eventually all we hang on to is hope for something much more

Death of a poor father, the only sole provider to them
The mother left to support the child she brought
Into the world without any regret
But now left with nothing only solemn and sad
A home they once had, filled with warmth and love
Was now taken over as hate rose above
Blaming each other for the worn clothes they wore
And how the stench grew to them
As though it began
Since they were each born
To them everything was lost
They wished someone would care
To others they meant nothing
They were not even there

The life on the streets was not easy to say
She begged for money and food
Even to bow to people’s feet for them she would do
The sounds of coins remained in their heads
While the air in the tin can just remained cold
Was it not suppose to be
That the torn and tattered clothes stood out
Along with the messy hair and reeking feet
Yet it did not affect them
It did not even affect one
So like a stray animal she searched hard to find food
To find even a rotten bun

Slowly with time their bodies start to fade
Skin to dust they both floated away
Searching many places for just someone to understand
As some dust passed me on a cold winter day
I sat
I stared
I looked
I prayed

Carefully he picked up the brush
Like a clown he painted over and over
Carefully he sewed bits of cloth on his shirt
Making the sleeves longer and longer
Scars like worms and leeches he tried so hard to hide
Scars that sucked the life from him deep down inside
Each day his age grew but his body remained
Forever bearing the scars moulded into him
Never ever healing with time
Or be fully covered up when he tried to hide

In a crowd she would be nice
The best mother, not a single flaw
In the home she would be like a devil
And he be a slave to his own mother
It was not always about having to take out the trash
That made him suffer and she look mad
But that she ironed him like a shirt
And fed him dog’s waste to cure his hunger or thirst
She found such peace in the night
As she threw him down to the basement to sleep tight
Every time he cried for her to stop
She would take the sand and rub on his eyes
Until they dried out
When school teachers asked about the bruises and scars
She lied and said, “You know how the boys like to be rough.”
It was not long till her time came to an end
That others came quick to help him
Before she could give another command

Most butterflies manage to blossom and fly
This one had an error
This one barely survived

There she sits alone by the window sill
Only a thin cloth separating her
From nothing else but the vigorous gusts of wind
Pounding, battering and breaking its way in
The feeling insider her is one not the same
Stillness and serenity seeps through her
And every nerve in her body stops producing fear
The rumbling of thunder starts to amplify itself more
Yet she does not try to run or take cover
Only sitting by the window sill watching the flood rise

The water escalates higher and there is nowhere to hide
Finding comfort only at her spot in the attap house
The place she used to sit and watch her father plough
But now it is not dry land her eyes capture
The fields were engulfed in nothing
But liquids that the sky above vomited
Everything accomplished before is now lost
Buried ashes of dead loved ones floated to the surface
It is like the dead conquering the living
It is like a battle never meant to be won

Effortlessly she surrenders giving away her last breath
Nothing that she could really do right now
At least her heart holds the comfort
Knowing she will soon join her family
In the heavens up above
A land of cherished memories for all
A land of challenges and difficulties
Yet it was a land where they all came out fine
Till now
So unexpectedly a drought came
So quickly a flood took over all
